What exactly does this all mean? You're going to feel great! Along with twisting, this class also incorporates vinyasa flow (movement with breathe), standing poses for strength and balance, and relaxation. Some yoga experience recommended.***

Yoga Basics

Brand new to yoga? This is the class for you. Been practicing for years and want to focus on your alignment and get grounded? This is also the class for you. Yoga Basics is a slow paced class in which we hold poses for longer periods of time to refine the alignment of the posture and gain an understanding of how good they are designed to make you feel. Learn postural modifications, adjustments, and refinements to prevent injury both on and off the mat. Wake up the parts of the body that might be asleep to assist you in living and feeling better!

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga stretches and targets both the deep connective tissues between the muscles, and the fascia throughout the body. The aim is to increase circulation in the joints and improve flexibility as the poses stretch and exercise the bone and joint areas. It also helps us to regulate the body's flow of energy.

Long-held passive pose practiced while the muscles are not yet warm allows the energy to reach the deeper connective tissues of the joints and the corresponding pathways of the meridian system. (The meridian system is composed of energy channels) The prana (or life force) stimulates and tones the joints, deep connective tissues, increasing the supply of fluids to them, making them less dense and enabling them to stretch appropriately.

As a result, we become more flexible, our joints become “juicier,” and energy blocks along the meridians are removed, enabling the organs to function better. And because the influx of prana works on the nervous system too, we become not only calmer but also more focused.

Alignment & Flow

In this class we will work with the ever-present energetic of Yin and Yang to enhance our awareness of stirha/sukha, steadiness and easefulness, the underlying purpose of ALL asana.

Incorporating principles of alignment to achieve balance between the front and back body, inner and outer body, right and left side, contraction and expansion, mind and heart.

With attention to the natural rhythms of flow combined with our alignment knowledge, we learn to move into and out of each posture with yogic grace.

Options for deeper challenges, backbends, arm balances, and inversions will be offered; however, this class is open to all levels of experience. You will be reminded to always trust your inner compass.
